Check out the screen shot.

I do not understand why new users have user names different from their ID's as seen in the web address bar.

Can anyone please explain why this is so?

That's because these are the actual web addresses for each member's profile and since this information is more geared toward your Internet browser more than you personally, numerical references are used for efficiency's sake.

Although this is a new practice here with the girl's side of the membership profiles which does make it rather interesting observation.

Sorry, but I do not understand.

New users have the numbers (even though their names are different); older users do not have the numbers. You and I are two such examples.

Why the difference?

It may be as simple as coding the web addresses for the female members with numerals and the males with usernames via alphanumerics to more easily catagorize them when you want to select just one gender. May very well be a simple database coding technique.

That is not quite accurate, from what I see.

Male members have user names and their web addresses match (even the new ones). And flyingwelshman (remember her?) has a user name that also matches the web address. She has no numerals in her user name (and web address).

Yeah, but did they seperate male members from female members at that time (as they do now) when she joined? No!

Now they have two distinct databases. One with alphanumerics and one NEW one with numerics. One for males and the other NOW strictly for females.

It is a matter of tagging the indivdual profiles into the proper database at this time to relegate the work to the main computer so some poor flunky does not have to sit there and sort through the ever growing member profiles and seperate them personally by gender.

It's bad enough they have to read our email whenever a server error occurs. (and I apologize for calling the potential human profile relegator a flunky)
