Spanish has a great way of pronouncing words. They use accents, (´) over vowels to indicate where the stress should be on the syllables.

If the word has no accent, then the stress is always on the last syllable. So, to me, Valeria sounds like, Valer-EE-A. The 'A' is like 'A cup of coffee.'

In English, the word 'malaria' is different. The stress is on the middle syllable.

My above post mentioned malaria. This has 4 syllables and I tried to correct that but Pop's post beat me to it. Ishould have said 2nd syllable.

Interesting to note how many ways one can pronounce a word or name with more than one syllable... I guess each word has as many number of ways as there are syllables. Unless there are accents like Spanish 😐
