Viewing iStripper with a VR headset using a Side-By-Side (SBS) full screen background is a great way to get an amazing 3D immersive feel and it has renewed my ongoing interest in the iStripper product with one drawback.... because one half of the screen is used for each eye, the effective highest resolution you can get in your headset from a 4K monitor is 2K horizontally.

To enjoy your collection of 4K iStripper cards in all their detail AND 3D SBS you need to have an 8K monitor and as these are pretty pricey, for me that was out of the question, so I set about trying to find a work-around using a "Dummy Plug".

I wasn't aware of these little gizmos until recently, what they do is to plug into your graphics card and persuade it that a monitor is attached, then you can view that virtual monitor from your VR Heasdet

After several weeks of trial and error buying various dummy plugs and making amazon richer I was able to get an 8K HDMI dummy plug that worked. With one drawback.... the maximum refresh rate was 17Hz. So it looked amazing in terms of clarity...but too jittery. I gave up and went back to my normal 4K down to 2K SBS set-up.

Sometime later I looked at the problem again with the help of ChatGPT who suggested I try an adapter to convert a spare Display Port socket into an HDMI 2.1 port and incredibly it worked !

I can now get 8K at an acceptable 30Hz - it looks awesome in terms of clarity and the 30Hz is a fine compromise for now.

The total cost of the final kit (ignoring all the stuff I bought that didn't work) was:

8K DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 Adapter for 19.99 (GBP)
8K 7680×4320@30Hz Dummy Plug for 8.70 (GBP)

My graphics card is an NVIDIA RTX 3080

8K 3D SBS Scenes coming soon !

Sounds cool. I do watch shows on my Quest 3 Headset, but in 2D using Quest Browser, or running Istripper with Virtual Desktop.

Are you watching the 2D videos over a 8K 3D background environment?

I also imagine you may be disappointed in the istripper VR180 5K low resolution video? I've been upgrading them to 8K with Video AI 6. It's not as good as native 8K, but better than their original 5K.

Yes, I've been building new scenes with new 8K 3D backgrounds and watching them via Virtual Desktop.

disappointed in the istripper VR180 5K low resolution video

Storing full shows at 8K must take a lot of space ? I only have a Quest2 and it often glitches above 5K videos.

But can you only watch iS VR content or are you talking about "regular" shows?

These are regular shows that have been projected onto a 3D VR background.There are lots of posts on the topic in here;

Tutto su iStripper / Discussions for Scenes for Version 1.2.X Fullscreen Mode here
I decided its time to start a thread for customized scenes like we had for customized skins. I am not sure if the artwork forum section is the right place so if the Mods think this should go into anot...
other threads.

Have you tried the passthrough and transparant options in Virtual Desktop when using in VR? The transparant plus passthrough makes black desktop background completely seethrough. I set my desktop to solid black with do not show desktop icons, also make sure no direct light behind model, works best in evening or fairly dim room with closed doors/windows. the result is your regular iStripper show being shown in your living room in faux AR. You can then place the show whereever you want in your space using various move and resize options in virtual Desktop and have the girls (with no background or fullscreen screesaver) dancing in your living room in human size. You can even shrink her down and place her to dance on your physical table or chair.

@mitchell

Yes I tried this, I think @WA commented on similar. I found that dark parts of the model were being read as transparent and with a Quest 2 the passthrough is low quality black and white.

So for now I prefer creating many different 3D background locations for the models in full screen.

One thing I would like to be able to do is to increase the size of the display in Virtual Desktop beyond the current maximum without bringing it closer.

In Virtual Desktop on Q2 first make screen as big as you wish. Now aim pointer at middle of screen and hold down grip button not trigger. While grip is held, move hand away from body. Do not use thumbstick. Release grip and screen will now be further away without auto shrinking. This can be repeated. This works in the plain black"flat" environment and passthrough.

Thanks for your answer, I was already familiar with this control. When viewing in a full screen SBS show, ***** the screen towards you in this way makes it appear to be closer (and therefore bigger) for a 2D show that's fine but not for 3D in SBS.

After giving the matter more thought, the answer is for me to somehow create SBS backgrounds that give the impression that they are further away to start with and I don't have a tool to do that. (yet)

This approach has already been bettered by @WA using a virtual monitor -:

Love it when the user development is humming with activity like this :)
