So... Here's a little usless factoid you can store in your brain - to pull out at those akward dinner party silences

Did you know - that the Moon is slowly moving further and further away from Earth?
  • and did you know - that the Moon is like a giant gyroscope that keeps the Earths Axis. stable

about 3m a year.

I guess the constructive approach to this topic is to ask for a more advanced search function for the member profiles ;)

I for one would like to know if there were any active Swedish members on the site... not so easy to find among +3 million profiles!

@SimplePsymon
Nope... last number I heard there are only about 100.000 Catholics in Sweden. Up till about 10 years ago State and Church were united and everyone born was automatically made a member of the Lutheran State Church (Svenska Kyrkan). Hard to believe when looking at the image of the Swedish Sin ;)

Worth to note is that Sweden is probably one of the most secular countries in the world and the Church has had no real power in ages. It's all about the taxes! ;)

oh - i just mentioned it because there is a big christy gold cross on your flag ^^

is a Lutheran Church similar to a catholic church? just a slightly different version of the bible?

It's similar but there are some "huge" differences in the fin print ;) ...one small detail is that Lutherans don't believe in or take orders from the pope like Catholics do :)

Lot of Kingdoms in Europe back in the days of Luther loved the break with Rome... since they could rob the churches and make them "their own". Again... it's all about the taxes! ;)

Actually Sweden was once a "super power" in Europe. We conquered parts of Russia, Poland, Germany and held Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania under our rule. I believe it was one of our kings during the 16th century that booted out the Catholics and made the Lutheran Church state church... all to get money to pay for war... again, it's all about the taxes ;)

The Swiss? Nice ski resorts and yummy chocolate ;)

Some interesting facts... or legends... According to Wikipedia the Swedish flag comes from a vision by a Swedish king in the 12 century during the first Swedish Crusade to Finland in the year AD 1157. Wow! I didn't even know Sweden had been on Crusades in Finland! :) Anyhow the king saw the yellow cross in the blue sky and held it as a sign from god to make this his banner... History is indeed fascinating and it's amazing how little one knows even about once own country.

Other historians believe the flag is the result of a rebellion against the Danish during the 13th century... The Danish flag is Red with a white cross. Believe it or not but our sweet Danish neighbors have have been at war with us more often than we have been at peace with them for the past 500 years :)

Here are some more flags with crosses :)

lol- so not mortal enemies then...

I find it interesting that the western symbol for hospitals / clinics / [health] has a cross symbol while middle eastern has the islamic sickle.

Nää... the Danish are cool... but stay away from their chicks or you'll get a heck of a beating! ;)

If your looking for beauty... goto Norway, WOW! ;)

The Cross and the Sickle? It's all in the power of religion, used and misused by rulers during the ages... Symbols are powerful, I guess this is why branding has become so important in business...
